About

My Approach

Learning best occurs when you, the student, receive individual attention personalized to your needs. Yet, rarely do you get this kind of attention in college or when preparing for college because your professors, advisors, counselors, etc. have so many other students to deal with. Meeting of the Minds is here to fill that gap by providing you with the one-on-one assistance you need. My goal is to help you achieve everything you are capable of.

For you the college student, this means helping you develop the skills necessary to succeed in the college classroom and then prepare for the job market or get into grad school.

For you the high school student, this means getting you into the college that is right for you.

About The Owner

My name is Greg VanHoosier-Carey, Ph.D. (feel free to call me Greg), and I am excited about the prospect of working with you one-on-one to help you achieve your educational goals. I am an easy-going person who is patient, knowledgeable, and fun to work with.

I know the challenges students face adapting to the demands of college and succeeding in their courses because I mentored hundreds of them in my former roles as professor and academic advisor. I also know the struggles students face finding the right school, completing applications, and getting admitted because I have sat on both college and grad school admissions committees and been involved in awarding scholarships. I am ready to help use my knowledge and experience to help you develop the skills to succeed and avoid the pitfalls that trip up even the best students.

I have a Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin and twenty years experience teaching and mentoring students as a former professor of communication. In 2011, I decided to leave my career in academia and become a private academic coach and admissions consultant, a job that allows me to focus on what I love best – working one-on-one with students.
